# Fibonacci Numbers for Kids

At some point in their lives while someone is teaching them any type of math, children typically ask, “Why do I have to learn this?” “Will I ever use this?” “Why does this matter?” or some variation of those questions.

With basic types of math, you can tell children they need to know it because they will use it in their everyday lives as adults. It’s important to know how to add, subtract, multiple and divide in order to pay bills, go shopping, and make sure your boss is paying you the correct amount every week. Unfortunately, with some of the higher levels of math such as Calculus, Trigonometry and the like, it can be difficult to pinpoint for a while why exactly they DO need to learn it, (especially if you’ve realized along the way in your own adult life that you really don’t use it all that much yourself.)

When it comes to Fibonacci numbers for kids, for example, it doesn’t really seem immediately applicable to their lives. But in reality, the Fibonacci sequence and Golden Ratio really ARE a part of our everyday lives, whether we realize it or not. Explanations of Fibonacci numbers for kids can simply be a discussion about math, such as the Fibonacci sequence, can be seen in nature.
